Driving this work is the first-ever database of all state-level fossil fuel lobbyists, which F Minus is using to demonstrate the ways in which these lobbyists’ fossil fuel advocacy is harming their other, non-fossil-fuel clients. The work opens a new front in the fight to strip fossil fuel companies of the social license they need to keep operating, and it complements similar divestment campaigns focused on the fossil fuel ties of ad agencies, PR firms, law firms, universities, and cultural institutions. In two of our key states, Maryland and Washington, we are also auditing disclosures by fossil fuel lobbyists and documenting a pattern of false and misleading statements; these audits help make the case for strengthening disclosure laws. On issues like limiting the use of gas in new buildings, and putting health warning labels on gas stoves, they also document a pattern of untruthfulness by fossil fuel lobbyists. |
